Chef Dynasty: House of Fang, The Great Food Truck Race season 16 (Food Network)
Who’s Afraid of a Cheap Old House? (HGTV); New House No Debt (A&E)
The cross-genre non-fiction prodco made a big swing in the premium-doc leagues last year with the Sylvester Stallone bio-doc Sly for Netflix (where the company had previously sold a troika of real-estate titles in Instant Dream Home, Buy My House and World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals) while still maintaining its strong presence in bread-and-butter reality spaces like lifestyle.
The company ushered in 2023 with a culinary docuseries for Food Network, Chef Dynasty: House of Fang, fronted by former Chopped winner Kathy Fang and her father and business partner, Peter (pictured left). The new title was followed on the same network later that year by an impressive 16th season of the mobile food competition The Great Food Truck Race, hosted by Tyler Florence (pictured right).
Due from Critical Content this year are two new home/reno titles: the Instagram-inspired Who’s Afraid of a Cheap Old House? for HGTV, a revamped version of the prodco’s previous series Cheap Old Houses; and New House No Debt, which was just picked up by A&E for its Home.Made.Nation lifestyle block. Brand awareness: Identifying the current wave of consolidation as “the biggest challenge facing our business,” Critical Content president Jenny Daly contends that the largest growth area lies in “looking to a traditional partner in brands — not one that is only associated with network engagement, but building those relationships directly to create content that speaks directly to their brand messaging as well as bringing entertaining programming to our viewers.”
